Artist Statement

The sites in these paintings depict aspects of our contemporary environment. I consider them constructed images that hopefully have some metaphorical meaning for the culture we live in. They ride a line between beauty and the grotesque, growth and decay.

The imagery is collected in large part from my everyday surroundings, but the resulting images have become theatrical and surreal. Many of the objects in the paintings appear discarded, no longer in use. They pile up, creating mounds of our culture's waste, yet they take on a life of their own.
